monday bloody monday
this past weekend was very busy to say the least.
*friday- rich and jane.. we just hung out... rich is leaving us soon! you lucky la people!!!!
*sat- berkeley... didn't get my first paycheck yet, but i did buy a whole bunch of new shoes that are work appropriate. eh, eh ;);) that night i hung out with lynn who will soon be in thailand... and suzan. they took me to a potluck which turned out to be akpsi... so i randomly new 3 other people there. then we had a girly sleepover...
*sunday- brunch at a really great place called rick and ann's... the wait was too long though.. another white elephant exchange where i actually participated ... i copied this person's idea from the night before and put together "the bag-o-sin" as my present. i ended up taking home a really cute japanese dish set... :)
so you people want to know about work... this is week 2
things are great here.. i get paid vacation time and i'm off for almost two weeks (feels like college) we even refer to this plant as a campus. we have our own medical, credit, and cafeteria place. i work in the main building which looks like a nordstrom without the fancy decorations hanging in the middle of the foyer. I work under really interesting and understanding people, i have probably one of the greatest managers, too. one thing to note is that there are extremely few younguns around. i've seen less than 20, met much less than that. most people here are retiring in the next 6 years, one of my superiors is retiring next month! also, the majority of people here are men. i just found out that although i didn't get the command media analyst position that i had been suggested for, i did end up beating about 3 other people for my current position b/c they "liked my attitude" luckily i was interviewed by who i would be working for instead of a real hr manager... which translates to slightly easier, more interesting and unconventional interviewing. tomorrow a new guy, a youngun starts into my dept so we'll see how well we mesh together. i hope there will be no toe stepping.
basically i attend meetings and act as an assistant and back up to the tech guy involved in my section of command media as we join two different sites together. i do minor tech things for the most part, but the main idea is to support the effort. i've realized that i will do the "tech" things while the person i back up works from home every now and then. he lives extremely far and is really swamped. i like their honesty in telling me right off the bat that my job will be "grunt work" i'm paying my dues and i have already discussed all my concerns with my mgr and made sure that the lines of communication are open with everyone else. so far i am very happy here and would even like to see a bit more responsibility. the only downsides are lack of aim and outside mail sources. and that my friends are anti defense companies and always joke about how the "missile making" is going.
the end for now. :)
